The Art of Thai Miniatures

Architecture, craft and cultural identity

Location: Royal Thai Embassy, London
Role & scope: Exhibition design · Interpretive research · Spatial planning · Display strategy · 3D visualisation · Installation supervision

Project overview

An exhibition of Thai traditional house models from the collection of late miniaturist Farida King, donated to the Royal Thai Embassy by her daughter Lisa King. Research into miniature traditions and Thai domestic architecture developed a narrative connecting craftsmanship, built form and cultural identity.

Design approach

Measured 3D models helped test the composition. Three plinth heights created balance among the varying model proportions, while object-specific orientation revealed raised floors, verandas, roof structures and interiors.
